PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has ordered the suspension of three PWD engineers in connection with the suicide of a PWD contractor recently.
The engineers are R M Pandit, executive engineer, Allen Pereira and Kenaudekar.
Additional Collector Amarsen Rane who enquired into the suicidal death of the PWD contractor in his report to the Government pointed out that an advance of Rs 22.61 lakh which was given to the deceased contractor was fraudulently made.
Speaking to media persons at his official residence at Altinho on Friday, Parrikar said the case will be handed over to the Crime Branch as well as the Anti-Corruption Bureau. Parrikar said he has learnt that an advance was released to the contractor to facilitate payment of kickbacks. The payment was released in early 2011 for construction of police station in Pernem. Since it has been found that the payment was made in deviation of rules and regulation, action has to be taken against the concerned officers.
When asked about the outcome of the Levinson Martins report on Apna Ghar wherein he recommended various measurers, Parrikar said there are many more reports that are awaiting action and he would need some time to execute those recommendations. “I will need at least six months”, he stated.
