DySP Mohan Naik said the incident is believed to have occurred between 3-5 pm when Linda’s husband Cajetan along with his grandson had gone to Navelim to purchase love birds. The incident came to light when Cajetan returned home at around 5 pm.
District police chief, Arvind Gawas, who visited the spot, said the Cuncolim police were directed to immediately register a case of murder under section 302 of the IPC. He said the police will also register a case of theft since the woman’s husband Cajetan has claimed gold ornaments have gone missing from the locked cupboard.
“The woman was found lying dead on the floor with both her legs tied with a cloth. There was also a nylon rope found tied to the bed”, SP Gawas said.
While saying that no external injury had been spotted on the body of the deceased, Gawas said the exact cause behind her death will be known after the post mortem examination.
“The body has been shifted to Hospicio and the autopsy is expected tomorrow”, he said.
Replying to a question, he said that gold ornaments including a ring and bangle on the body of the deceased were found intact. “The husband has claimed that gold ornaments inside the locked cupboard have gone missing”, he said, adding that the police are verifying the claim.
DySP Mohan Naik said the husband and grandson had left the house at around 3 pm through the rear door after closing the front door. “We are investigating the case from all angles. Post mortem examination will throw more light in the case”, DySP Naik added.
